Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Like many of the houses in the ladder, we have lovely original tiles in our hallway. However, they are slowly getting looser and looser and we need to nip this in the bud before they start deteriorating badly.

So does anyone know of anyone who restores Victorian floor tiles? I imagine they need re-fixing and sealing plus a couple around the edge need to be replaced.

Thanks,

Hugo.

Thanks Hugh. Encaustic is a new one on me - I love learning new stuff!

Thanks again for updating the tag. Since clicking on the 'Encaustic tiles' tag I've found several great sounding recommendations on HoL. For one easy point of reference, here are the three most recent and hottest recommendations together for anyone else who's interested...

Brian: Email: email@classicvictoriantiling.co.uk  Phone: 07956 147983 - LOTS of high recommendations

Paula:  http://www.palacevictorian.co.uk/ - one very hearty recommendation

Hi Hugo, who did you go for in the end to restore your hall tiles? Were they any good and (if you don't mind me asking) how much did it cost you?.. Thanks

Hi Hugo, like Woody I was wondering who you got to do your tiles in the end, and how it went. My downstairs neighbour and I would be grateful if anyone who has had good hall tiling done would be willing to let us have a quick look at it, partly so we could hear how it went, and partly to help us make a decision about whether to choose a new pattern, and, if so,what it might look like. A lot to ask I know but "if you don't ask you. .."!

We would be grateful if anyone is willing to engage with us in this. Thankyou.Eve.

Hello both,

Actually we still haven't got round to it!

We got quotes from Brian and Paula who both came round and both quoted about £600 or so. They were both clearly experts and I'll use one or the other when we finally do it. Of course the cost is going to vary enormously from job to job depending on the work involved. Our hall has a couple of patches that need relaying and a few tiles to be replaced, plus they would clean and treat them. I would confidently use either but you'd need to get them round to get an idea of cost, as the halls are all in different states.

Good luck!
