Veolia, you're rubbish
Piles of rubbish left for days on end.
This is still in the passage between Seymour and Hewitt - been there for at least 5 days.
And the purple bags has been brightening the pavement on the south side of Seymour by the passage since May 19th.

Yes, I'm very irritated by this failure as I first reported the rubbish around the bin (and the over full bin) on the 16th May. The only thing they appeared to do was empty the bin and leave the dumped rubbish which they then added to by putting the sweeping bags next to the bin a couple of days later and then did not collect by the end of the day.
The dumped clothes thing is even more irritating. I found a load of rubbish strewn around and bags dumped on the 16th which I tidied up and reported.
I would have expected the whole lot to be gone by Wednesday end of day at the latest but people were telling me that it was still there on Thursday.
They then appeared to have picked up the dumped bags but left any rubbish that was pulled out of the bags behind (they did a similar thing with a large fly tip by the school).Don't know about you but I expect all rubbish to be cleared up at the same time, otherwise you are making work for yourself when someone else has to come and clear up the stuff you left behind.

Veolia street sweeper chap was doing Passage yesterday. Now has an Enterprise cart back in use so he 'can get through the bollards at each end of the section of the Passage'. Apparently Veolia carts are 'too wide' on some sections of the Passage.
Purple bags picked up by roving vehicle. No method for Sweepers to report dumping back to Team that deals with this apparently, like there used to be with Enterprise set-up.
All this said by one sweeper so take with a pinch of salt if you like.

I take the expression about a pinch of salt to mean that someone may be exaggerating. Though personally, Matt, I don't start by discounting or disbelieving what your informant says. I do try to cross-check and piece together multiple bits of information. Including my own conversations with Council and Veolia staff.
Communication about dumping was one of the issues which Reg Rice, Lorna Reith and I raised with Veolia last Wednesday. They said sweepers are expected to write details of fly-tipping they spot and report it to their manager. I suggested they consider a pilot with sweepers reporting via mobile phones. Plainly there are cost implications.

Incidentally, these days I keep hearing that some Haringey staff are told they mustn't speak to councillors. If true, it's the best possible compliment the more secretive, injelitant parts of the Council's organisation could possibly give us.
Presumably they worry that we might see past the curtain of Obfuscandian bureauburble.

Said collecting vehicle ran the gauntlet down Lausanne Rd three times before 7:45 this morning. He's not 7.5t but he does make a racket.

Alan, I don't know if he's exagerating. My point really is that it's just one employee's experience so may not be representative of a any bigger picture across the borough.

Couldn't agree more. I was in Wood Green today and it was RANK. All the bins were overflowing, with piles of rubbish around them and litter flapping around everywhere. Those distinctive purple Veola bags were never far away. Like this ...
It isn't great advertising for Veola is it?
The thing that really struck me was how inadequate the number of bins were. Unless they were being emptied midday it was just inevitable that they would be spilling over pretty quickly.
Some thoughts:
- Aren't the powers that be in Wood Green embarrassed that their Shopping City looks like a rubbish tip? They should be - on a beautiful spring morning it was particularly revolting.
- Has anyone ever thought about emptying bins in the middle of the day, especially on a busy Saturday?
- Are there really enough bins? Shouldn't some of the fast food places be paying for more bins, and more emptying of them, seeing that so much of their contents come from them?
I emailed Haringey about their policy when it comes to emptying bins about 3 weeks but have not yet had a reply. If anyone knows how often they are supposed to be emptied do please post here.

Wow - the recycling folks have just done their collection and the front of my house looks like a bombsite - boxes, bags and lids strewn/thrown all over the place including the pathway. Do I want the front of my house looking like that for a whole day every Monday while I am at work? Absolutely not and I imagine most other readers on this site feels like that too. It looks awful and it is a dead give away that nobody is at home. What can be done about it except for giving up on recycling which I dont really want to do but is this what Veolia is trying to make us do?

Veolia is now one of the 3 bidders for £4.7 billions contracts with north London, which includes Haringey.
These 30 years contracts are with the North London Waste Authority (NLWA), which represents:
Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Hackney, Haringey, Islington and Waltham Forest.
We're a group trying to dissuade NLWA from selecting Veolia. Our main concern is Veolia's grave misconduct in its serving illegal Israeli settlements.
