There has been a long running thread about ongoing delays to the post in N8 and N4 but for those who have missed it, I’ve pasted below a useful update from the Hornsey MP which sheds some light. It basically sounds as though the depot that serves us has been hit by a perfect storm of hugely increased volumes, far fewer staff and, intriguingly, perhaps a distance & location issue ...
The other thread, with various tales of missing post, is here: https://www.harringayonline.com/forum/topics/are-local-postal-servi...
Dear friend,
I spoke with senior Royal Mail staff last week about the ongoing postal problems in N8 and N4 and they have today sent me this letter updating on some of the actions they are taking to try and resolve the matter. I hope you find it helpful.

During the meeting, I also asked about the possibility of re-opening a delivery office in N8. It was a real blow to the local community when Hornsey Sorting Office closed down in 2014. With the volume of parcels now being handled doubling in recent weeks and likely to remain high, it feels more important than ever that N8 and N4 mail is given the priority it deserves and that residents aren’t forced to take public transport, drive or cycle over to N19 to collect packages once delivery offices can safely reopen. I have written to the Chief Executive of Royal Mail to raise this proposal further.
I have also asked if Royal Mail can provide a contact for local managers for people with very specific concerns, and I will forward this on once I receive it.
Finally, I am very much aware that this still isn’t a normal service and whilst Royal Mail are hopeful that the additional staffing will improve matters and that they are through the worst, I know that many of you continue to experience problems. I have asked to be kept regularly updated and appreciate you continuing to share with me news of improvements or new problems that I can collate and raise with Royal Mail on your behalf.
Best wishes,
Catherine
Member of Parliament for Hornsey & Wood Green

I've now had all my packages, over the last two days. So hopefully everyone else is getting theirs too!
We`ve had a lot of parcels delivered on Sunday! that were missing since beginning of May and today another big load. It was like Santa with his sack, the postaman had a white beard too :)
I still am missing some letters, fingers crossed they will show up soon.
Just in case you didn't notice but the "Something for you" cards changed mid May.
I spoke to the local regular postman the other day, around near Hornsey police station. He said everything's almost back to normal. I now have no outstanding post that I know of (although the reminder to pay my water bill arrived and the actual bill hasn't).
The Mother's Day card my son posted to me in March - the only one he's ever sent - has never arrived. Today's my birthday and there's nothing from him yet - though I received plenty of other cards - I guess "lost in the post" is quite a convenient excuse...;)
The only item I was still waiting for the other day turned out to be at a neighbour's house. I told the sender I'd not received it and asked if there was a proof of postage barcode to help the sorting office look for it. He sent me the PDF of the online postage purchase and he'd put the wrong address on it. D'oh.
Is anyone else having post problems again? I’m waiting for a number of items that are all about a week late now. The stand out one is a legal letter from Edinburgh that was sent to four people, two of whom live in rural areas of England and Scotland and who received it last Wednesday! Mine still hasn’t arrived ..
Just wondering if anyone is experiencing any postal problems again? I'm on the Grand Parade and am outstanding a number of parcels, including one that was posted a fortnight ago from south London! Royal Mail customer services telephone wait-times are in excess of one hour so I gave up on that... Is anyone else experiencing similar issues/have any information on what's going on?
Yes, I went days without any deliveries then two packages turned up three days later than expected. One item I'm expecting is now more than a week overdue. It seems a lot more erratic during the last few weeks, comparable to the slow down during May/June or thereabouts.
Yes, we are on Fairfax and we`re missing a few parcels that were due over a week ago.
Our postman has even taken to doing Sunday deliveries again to try to reduce the backlog.
Thank you for all the responses. It's a relief to know that there are others in the same boat! I have noticed that RM-24 and international express tracked services have been prioritised so there is some kind of system functioning in the chaos but I guess I'll just have to sit tight and hope the standard-class parcels turn up soon. Hope all of yours do too!
