Did anyone else have to endure the 7am alarm call emanating from the horn of the dodgy scaffolding lorry that persists in operating out of Umfreville Road this morning? The Neanderthal driver of the lorry, leant on the horn, for what must have been 10 minutes in total, trying to get someone to move a van which had been parked and was sticking out about 6 inches across the exit from the old stables halfway down the Green Lanes end of the road. It's bad enough that we have to listen to the asthmatic revving of their bloody lorry every morning at that time.
Actually I didn't think people were allowed to run light industry businesses out of residential properties or the buildings behind them on the ladder. The persistent cutting up of scaffolding poles during summer afternoons was bad enough, but this antisocial behaviour took the biscuit, and seeing as the owner/driver has now gone out of his way to alienate this particular Umfreville Road resident, who or where does one find out about such legal matters over at Haringey Council?

Gilly,
Gosh, don't tell me we're getting a few cracks in the tranquil facade? Step-by-step, eh? You're probably right... But I think by now you've probably guessed I'm not really a step-by-step sort of person. I've been here 18 years, can't remember who was here first, or who called who what in the playground either... length of residency doesn't give anyone the right to behave badly, or run a 'hooky' business. But I shall take on board all your kind advice. By the way it's 'Little' Lord Fauntleroy... the 'Little' helps with the alliteration and the diminutive nature of the word adds a bit more of a kick insult-wise... But, I can see you're a novice at this sort of thing, so don't sweat it...
Well I was holding back on the guess that you've got a little d**k..... don't really want to improve on my insults really... not my style. I was wondering who was there first because if the business has been there for yonks and you move in then perhaps you could have been aware of them in the first place and the problems that may have arisen. I think there has been businesses there for years.... but yes if they are unbearable to live next to you have a point, good luck. But I stand with what I have said, being a neanderthal will not help your cause and its a fine line between humour and rudeness!
A fine line it maybe, but one that is always begging to be crossed. As to the 'old fella' I'd say it was probably of average size, so you were fine with the 'dick' joke. As Lenny Bruce once said 'never apologise'... at least I think he did... Anyway, thank you for your thoughts...
Do you have an 'A to Z of Council Services" booklet as its useful as a start.
I would first ring Environmental Health who deal with noise nuisance 02084895230 and see what they can do, you may have to get them out when the scaffold cutting noise is happening to assess noise level. They may ask for a "noise" diary or evidence: I found it useful to ring them every time there was a problem simply so they could officially log it and then understand how persistent it was.
The "Local Customer Service Centre" deals with anti social behaviour, maybe worth a try, phone the Council Switchboard 02084890000 and ask for the specific phone number (the choice is Hornsey/ S. Tottenham/, N Tottenham or Wood Green so maybe its Hornsey).
I would also ring 'Planning' 02084895508 and ask wether this company is allowed to operate out of that premises. If you describe the problem the staff are usually ok at putting you in touch with the right person.
There is also mileage in contacting your local councillor, not sure who that is.
Maggie,
That's really helpful... Thank you very much. I'll give that a go on Monday.
