Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Twelfth Night and the annual dead christmas tree competition for 2014 is open!

Time to take down the tree, pack the ornaments away and eat that last chocolate santa that inexplicably escaped the attention of the kids (unless you're me, in which case, you switch the tree off and put it back in the cellar, in a box).

What next for the little fir tree "leaned against the wall lost in reverie"

Well, of course, you *should* either leave it out for collection or take it to one of these places for mulching and recycling but sadly there are some amongst us who do this instead and often several months after Christmas

So, for several years now we've run the dead christmas tree spotting competition (mystery prize) which has become increasingly competitive over the years with people claiming the prize as late as August 1st!

So, if you can beat AntK, post below! Photographic evidence is required for a claim. Keeping your own tree and throwing it out on Aug 2nd will be automatic disqualification.

Also, feel free to wallow in post Christmas despair by sharing pictures of dead Christmas trees on the streets. Click here to find out how Richard Brautigan spent the first days of 1964 in San Francisco. Hint - it's something to do with dead Christmas trees.

Oh dear - too bad I didn't notice this "competition" earlier.  Someone on our street still has the remnants of a poor, dead tree from Christmas 2012 sitting out behind the garden fence.  Should have snapped it in mid December as now it's just one of many....

What do you mean leave it out for collection? Does Haringey collect dead trees from houses? Taking it to recycling is obviously best, but difficult if you don't have a car or preferably a van in view of the size and needle drop

Chris

Yes, they do take it, as part of the garden waste collection if your house/flat has one. If you have a particularly large tree, they ask you to cut it in half but most household trees can just go as they are.

Your local Xmas Tree Recycling centre for the Ladder, Woodlands and Gardens area is the Gardens Community Garden (GRA) Doncaster Gardens, off Stanhope Gardens N4 1HX.
To update, we have 48 Xmas tree's collected so far in six days, I think we had collected last year 68 tree's in total ( Liz can confirm that?)

As part of those 48 trees includes 2 living tree's at approx 2ft 1/2 high - If you want a free Xmas tree now, for next year please pop down and collect them they are in the Garden or else there for the chop???l
Last drop off day at the Community Garden is Sun 26th Jan so get it out of your front garden and delivered to us.
The Garden is open from 9am to dusk everyday 7 days aweek.
