Trees cut down

Does anyone know why the trees have been cut down by the bridge where Lancaster Road meets Stapleton Hall Road? The ugly wooden structures beneath the bridge are now fully revealed and the whole appearance of that corner of the road has been spoiled.

Possibly for access to the site, so that the failing brickwork of the bridge can be scaffolded for support? I agree it's not a good look though. Give it a year or so for undergrowth to return.....
