There are a few Rowan or Mountain Ash trees on the Ladder and they are easily identifiable by their orange berries, which might be a bit mushy this time of year. Mix the berries with crab apples to make a jam.
Picked Hawthorn berries and made 'Hawthorn candy' you squeeze the juice out and dry it. It turns to a light leathery texture that tastes like wine gums
We hold free street tree walks every two months in a different part of Haringey - it's a chance to find out more about the varous species that surround us.
No problem to gather berries within reason. Some berries are poisonous (I'm looking at Yew...) but they're rare - none of the street trees (all planted by the Council) are dangerous really.
