Transport Study - options identified and workshops to shortlist
The latest on the transport study is that a list of options have been identified and there are to be a couple of workshops to whittle down these options to a short list which will then be put out for a public consultation next year.
There are two of these workshops, on the 1st and 3rd of December, but they are invitation only, with two invitees from the following list of community groups:
-GRA
-Garden Community Garden
-Hewitt Rd RA
-Woodlands Park RA
-Hermitage Rd RA
-Wightman Rd RA
-Living Wightman
-LCSP
-Hermitage Rd Neighbourhood Watch
-Friends of Harringay Passage, Fairland Park, Ducketts Common, Finsbury Park, Chestnuts Park
-Turkish Cypriot Community Association
-Harringay Online
The council don't sound terribly keen to add other groups to that list but say they might - contact Razak.Mahama@haringey.gov.uk
I've requested they let us know the list of identified options before hand and will post back here if they do.

Well, assuming everyone does what they normally do ( campaign/push for their own agendas, the northern gated community for example) the list of groups included/invited seem biased toward the ladder and gardens (including hermitage in the gardens here).
What of the Harringay Levels or Woodlands Park?? Poor old Geoff is going to get shot in the cross fire.
Also, why are there no Reps from the north side of West Green Road on the forum? I'm pretty sure they'd be interested in any changes.
But, I suppose if you carried on including different groups it would ultimatey lead to mayhem.
Anyway , just an observation.

The list is from comments sent during the consultation period or put on the online map so it was open to anyone to comment.

There are many observations that can be discussed. Here is what struck me:
1) Wightman Road open versus layout during bridge closure 2 to 1.
2) The most responses that mention "Ladder" (i.e., add bollards/ local traffic only) is 25 whereas keep Gardens closure / Bollards 2x that at 53.
3) The most trafficked road on the Ladder by a country mile (Warham) is not mentioned by name at all. Yet Beresford which gets ~600 vehicles less per day is mentioned numerous times. Did the responders live on Beresford Road or use it to cut through?
4) There are a number of measures that, if implemented, would vitiate the need for other remedies. Example: If Wightman road were set up as it was during the summer there would be no need for bollards, restricted access on the Ladder roads.
5) It seems like people had sight of what others were saying--many of the proposals had an exact opposite proposal, e.g, "No right turn out of Beresford Road" was countered with "Do not agree with 'no right turn' out of Beresford Road".
6) Some stuff was surprising but kind of cool--I liked the "continue the passage over the train tracks to Finsbury Park."

I have big issues with this piecemeal totting up of individual tags from the map. Was the plan not to produce an holistic plan that considered the effects on the whole area.

That's right, Michael. It's a summary of consultation comments.
I agree that if it were to be the sole basis of any solution-making, we'd be unlikely to see the best solution come forward.
I pointed this out in the last steering group, opined that I felt that most people would welcome the expertise of traffic professionals at this point. I also sought and received confirmation that the solution would be neither an arithmetic exercise derived from this feedback nor be resrticed by it.

So you're going to these workshops right Hugh - what types of things are you going to be suggesting for the short list that goes out to public consultation?

In addition to traffic professionals it might be worth criminal specialists who can confirm that the ease of use of the Ladder facilitates criminal activity and that this be kept in mind when crafting proposals.
