Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

A Book In A Day/A Book Of The Day at the Hidden River Festival.

With the help of the public, local artist-publishers Simon Lewandowski and Jim Pennington will assemble a publication compiled from the words and pictures visitors and participants in the Hidden River Festival bring us.

Using a mixture of old (typewriters and duplicators), new and alternative (a bike-powered copier-printer) technologies to give contributors a hands-on experience of putting together a publication. The book will capture the spirit of the Festival.

We need some Volunteer Typists; can you touch-type on a manual typewriter? Email S.lewandowski@leeds.ac.uk or come by on the day (12-5.00 Sunday September 22nd)

Hello Simon, I think you may have taught me at Falmouth in the nineties! Perhaps see you at this event!

And sorry, can't touch type. They didn't teach us that at art school!

Never mind, I'm we taught you something useful there! Well OK, maybe not.... But it'll be very nice to see you and I'd be interested to know what you've been doing.

Are you expecting people to touch-type on manual typewriters onto wax stencils, if you are using duplicators? Because that's a tall order. Better lay in a big supply of clear nail varnish for corrections on stencils....

On the other hand, it would all be a bit easier if the typewriters were IBM Selectrics (the touch being more similar to what we are now used to, computer keyboards).

We'll leave it a lot  more loose than that. I think the point is that the touch won't be like a computer keyboard.... We'll make it up as we go along. Will you be stopping by?

I'm not sure. Can I bring my IBM Selectric 82 with me, or is it strictly electricity-free? If it has to be manual, I'd have to bring the Imperial 60, and that weighs a ton.

no need to bring anything - just come along.
