This week at Karamel!
TOMORROW’S WARRIORS PRESENTS... KLARA DEVLIN QUARTET
Thurs, May 29, 2025
Doors open 7pm, music starts at 8pm.
Those in the know are already excited about the rise of trumpeter Klara Devlin on the Birtish jazz scene.
A finalist in the BBC Young Jazz Musician of the Year 2024, Klara's material draws inspiration mainly from the Bebop and Hard Bop eras, mixed with a soupcon of Funk and improv, while her influences span Freddie Hubbard, Lee Morgan, Ella Fitzgerald, Herbie Hancock, Roy Hargrove, Chick Corea, and Wayne Shorter.
“Klara Devlin, remember her name, she is in my opinion one of the most amazing and unique new trumpet voices to emerge onto the UK jazz scene. To coin the famous quote ‘if ya ain't got it in ya, ya can't blow it out’. Klara Devlin definitely has it, and definitely blows it out of her horn! I’m about 2-3 jazz generations in front of her and I’ve never been this excited about a young musician in a while, definitely a stylist who’ll be making new waves for the next generation.”Tony Kofi, saxophonist
For over 30 years, Tomorrow’s Warriors has played a vital role within its community and the wider music industry and has been credited with literally changing the face of UK jazz. Free access to Tomorrow’s Warriors artistic programme has proved crucial in nurturing the nascent talent and early careers of so many of the most exciting UK artists currently tearing up the international jazz scene including Mercury Prize 2023 winners Ezra Collective, Moses Boyd, Nubya Garcia, Shabaka Hutchings and Sons of Kemet, ESKA, Jason Yarde, Denys Baptiste, Robert Mitchell, Soweto Kinch, Shirley Tetteh, Byron Wallen...the list goes on.
A Black-founded and Black-led organisation, Tomorrow’s Warriors offers a pioneering, comprehensive programme of learning and training which champions and supports young Black and female talent and those who come from challenging circumstances that would be a barrier to accessing opportunities to pursue a music career.

Rory Ingham - trombone Dominic Ingham - violin and voice Piano – Will Barry Adam King - bass Mark Taylor - drums
“The idea is simply playing the music we love and have grown up with which is steeped in the history of jazz from 1918 to 2025, alongside some original music of ours. It’s a deep musical relationship that has existed intensely for over 20 years and will be a very engaging and uplifting night of music!”
Music includes composers such as Thelonious Monk, Oliver Nelson, John Coltrane, Rory/Dominic Ingham and particularly great songbook tunes. It’ll be a swinging affair!
About Rory
“effortless virtuosity” Jazzwise (EU) “richly melodic” London Jazz News “the trombonist showed splendid richness of sound and an unlimited imagination” La Vanguardia (ES) “Virtuosic trombone playing...if his name appears on a billboard near you, you won’t regret buying that front row seat" British Trombone Society
About Dominic :
'The ability of Dominic becomes immediately apparent as his violin skilfully soars above a slow burning groover' - Jazzwise 'A rare treat...should be heard live whenever possible' - Kit Downes 'A fluid, masterly violin solo' - All About Jazz

"Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live."
MANNINGTREE, 1645. In a time of civil war and uncertainty, paranoia runs rife. Whispered rumours of witchcraft spread. Suspicion turns to accusation as a local beggar woman is denounced as a witch. And a young witchfinder begins to come into his own —Matthew Hopkins, the self-appointed WITCHFINDER GENERAL.
The events that followed would see one hundred men and women executed for witchcraft in England's deadliest witch hunt.
THE WITCHFINDER is an unsettling look at one of England's darkest moments and explores the rise of fanaticism, resistance, and legacy. Following a successful abridged preview at University College London, the full-length piece is premiering at McQueen's Theatre.
Performing June 6, 7, and 8 at 7pm. Doors open at 6:30pm. Latecomers may not be admitted. Runtime approximately 2.5 hours including interval.
TRIGGER WARNINGS: religious themes, torture, references to sex, references to abuse, sexism, & death. We strongly recommend this show for audience members over 12 years old.
