Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Skip trucks. Lots of them.

RC57 TON - Reston Waste Management around 7:30 this morning. I called them up and the first thing they they tried was the old "he needs to use that road to access another". Don't stand for that.

PZ GBN - East London Waste Management, although the GBN means it's an old GBN Services truck. This was about 7:45 and I was on my bike and caught him coming across from West Green Rd past the Queen's Head. He just went around me and straight up Lausanne Rd.

Dear SNT,

I swear, I am going to take a f'ing cricket bat to the headlights of one of these guys one morning. Please either do something about it or arrest me before I take the law into my own hands. You know where I live.

I know you are our expert on this topic and I have a query from someone on my street who hasn't got a cricket bat yet but is sick of the heavy lorries

She commented to me:

I have noticed alot more heavy lorries now use the road especially in rush hour. I know Green Lanes is bad but the heavy delivery lorries are becoming more noticable on Warham road , the noise is bad as they excelerate up here at the top of the road.
I would like to get something done if possible to get the Council to at least enforce the restriction notice. Can you help me or suggest a way forward?

Suggestions please on what my neighbour should do...
I suggest she develops the admittedly slightly autistic trait of being able to memorise vehicle registration numbers, takes them down, including time of "visit" and calls their employer. This is the ONLY thing that has worked in the past for me. O'Donovan's used to be a plague but they got the message in the end this way.

The people who should help us have decided that it's "too difficult" or "not really an issue".
I have a vague recollection of being told on our street walkabout that the business of enforcing is going to be passed to the council i.e. street enforcement and out of the hands of the police and that they are 'in the process' of that hand over now. It might be worth raising that with SNT, since it might be that no one thinks they are responsible for it during the hand over
would it be useful to compile a list of the companies (phone numbers/emails) that most often offend?
John, hi its Maggi from warham road.I am setting up a meeting week of the 12th to discuss what we can do about the amount of traffic and noise .Its got alot worse since I moved in last July. Would be good if we all could join forces !
thanks
Maggi
I think I'm busy on the 13th but apart from that, count me in. Will bring my f'ing cricket bat.
Hi Maggi, I'd be keen to join this meeting, I live at the top of Warham too and there has definately been an increase in heavy lorries. I'd be quite happy to do some spying on these when I'm at home!
thanks Iona

Let me mention some other locations where similar problems arose.

● Several years ago residents inside the Tottenham one-way system complained to me about trucks speeding through residential streets and ignoring 'No Entry' signs. Residents identified the company involved. Haringey officers spoke to a Director who undertook to give instructions to their drivers. That seemed effective.

● Residents complained about large vehicles which occasionally tried to access Tottenham High Road through a small residential side road. They got hopelessly stuck in narrow back streets - sometimes damaging parked cars. I suggested that signs - something like Unsuitable for Large Vehicles - should be erected at the entrance to the road. My suggestion was completely ignored - with no reasons given.

● More recently, my ward colleague Cllr Lorna Reith got complaints about large trucks using a residential 'rat run'. Officers measured the numbers of trucks and agreed to erect signs.

So four possibilities: recording & measurement; approaches to the 'offending' companies; and signage. With enforcement in reserve, of course.
Fifth possibility. Lots of buggies with (perhaps not human) babies getting in the way. a lot. Or maybe the odd dead body in the road (which may turn out to be a dummy, or may get up and walk away). Greenham tactics, bring em on. Don't rely on t'council to fix it.
A YouTube clip from Central Park in New York shows more tools which may help tackle this problem.

● Video ● speed gun ● social media website.

v interesting video - i am trying to track down the make/model of the radar gun. Being able to clearly see the speed of the passing vehicles is very useful.
Adam, if you have a YouTube account what about a message to lfreedman who posted the video? If you both have Skype, you can phone him.
