Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

The Property Company on Tottenham Lane, and their unsavoury business practices.

There's been mentions of this company on here before, mainly to do with dumped litter and antisocial behaviour. They manage (badly) a couple of problem properties on the Ladder, and do not have a great reputation. They're the sort of landlord who will not listen to complaints from either tenants or neighbours, and just pockets the money, sod everyone else. Not the loveliest of attitudes. I believe they have contract with Haringey Council for quite a few properties.

I just caught someone sticking a piece of junk mail though my letterbox. I have a big sticker saying "no junk mail" clearly displayed across the letterbox. You can't miss it. As i happened to be in the hallway when this happened, I opened the door and asked the man if he didn't see the sticker. He mumbled. I got him to take his flyer - from The Property Company - back, and he kept on mumbling. His friend then turned up, and informed me that they were not to blame, it was their boss, at The Property Company, who has told them in no uncertain terms to ignore "no junk mail" stickers on doors. They've been told that if anyone complained, in this case me, I should call the office.

My husband caught them another time, and that guy started arguing that this was not junk mail, they were just promoting their business, as they were expanding. Really?

I think this attitude clearly sums up what kind of people they are and how they run their business. As I said above, sod everyone else. That is not the kind of company anyone should be doing business with, and I would like to urge anyone on here to avoid them like the plague.

Haringey Council should certainly not be working with people like that, it's not in anyone's best interest.

Re their relentless junk mail - any ideas what can be done? I've tried calling them before, they really do not care in the slightest.

Post it back to them without a stamp. Add some pizza leaflets for extra colour.

I think its much better to add a stamp

Like a sheet of 1p stamps.....thats if you want to spam them, thus dealing abit of direct karma :P

Do they have a social media presence? The last time I complained about a local business shoving four leaflets through the door at a time (we are clearly a single occupancy house with one letterbox/doorbell) they were hugely apologetic, identified the person responsible and ensured they never did it again. I don't even have a 'no junk mail' sticker - I just thought it was a waste of trees and quite inconsiderate. I won't 'name and shame' the company here as I have nothing else against them and was impressed with how they reacted.

HOWEVER, social media is the way to go in this type of situation, always.

Can't find them on Facebook - there's an empty page there for them, but got them on Twitter: @ThePropertyCo. Bar posting their flyers back, un-franked, accopanied by a brick or another heavy object, which will be enormously satisfying, dont get me wrong, but not sure that's enough. Please help shame them on Twitter!

On who you do business with: a couple of years ago I buttonholed the then Deputy Mayor (wearing Special Dress) on this theme. I expressed surprise that a Labour council was prepared to do business with a former slum landlord (Firoz  Kassam of Firoka, to whom our Trustees, the council, wanted to "sell" – in effect, give – our charity's main asset, Alexandra Palace).

The answer?

"The council will do business with anyone who has money".

In this respect, how does the council differ from a prostitute?

.

Wow. You got that in writing?

Didn't get it in writing; a phrase like that stuck in my mind. This was the occasion. Councillors of the Majority Group are not normally so frank about the level of morality that obtains in their deliberations.

Sadly, I know that all too well, I lived near a property owned and managed my Limelight Properties. They're equally bad, as the local police will tell you. The Council did get involved in that one, and actually stopped using that property.

I can't say this surprises me. A couple of weeks ago I was driving from Muswell Hill when I saw one of their cars driving extremely erratically and with no care for the safety of other road users. They overtook someone in single lane traffic and then proceeded to make an illegal and dangerous u-turn, almost driving into on-coming traffic. If they drive like that in a car covered in their logos, I doubt they give a damn about their reputation.

Also one of the worst offenders for sticking up (and leaving forever) the unlawful "Let By" billboards in the gardens of the properties they rent out.

I've also previously complained about a problem tenant in one of their properties rented by Haringey - a clearly unstable care in the community person who was threatening passers-by - and they were utterly disinterested.

So, complete disregard for their community from what I can see.

That is a major problem in the area. Brian Thomas is another infamous offender on that score.

Another agency that charges SIX WEEKS deposit. When I was looking to move they found me a place, but the moving in costs ran into THOUSANDS, so I could not afford it.
