Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Last to know as usual, on Wednesday my kids took me to the musical playground in Chestnuts Park, which is just behind the big 'conventional' playground. Nearly all the installations make sounds. The best is the big triangle that my girl is pushing which emits a loud sonorous dong but we also loved the tooting planks in the picture below.

What a lovely and slightly magical little place to play on a winter morning!

"Last to know as usual"?

Tsk.Tsk. And I thought you kept an eye on my Flickr pages! But you're right, Liz. slightly magical. Even for grown-ups. (And I've no idea how we missed the big triangle.)

Well, really I meant my kids have more idea about the playgrounds than I do! It's a lovely little place but what has happened to these? Don't think they were there on Wednesday?

Ah the famous batonkas!

I tried to phone Parks to ask them, but was told: "They don't take direct phonecalls any more". Maybe the Friends of Chesnuts Park know.

The manufacturers are BingBangBong. Nice video on YouTube.

The triangle is new, so maybe it's replaced the batonkas . . .

this is Ceri, Chair of Friends of Chestnuts.

The batonkas didn't work properly, and so we got the revolving bell ringing thing instead, at no extra cost. Glad people like the new garden. We are about to get an additional lottery grant to have events promoting the new garden and the park. We're hoping to run a seedbomb/planting day on 24 March, and the Alternative Olympics/Paralympics on 30 June, then a film screening in September...watch this space.

Next Friends meetings are Sat 14 Jan 12.30 and Sat 11 feb at 10.30am - all take place in cafe. ALL welcome!

It's one of our favourites too, a little sanctuary away from the main play ground - although a noisy sanctuary! I haven't seen the new triangle though.

Thanks Ceri, mystery solved. The kids insisted on going there and the 'donging' triangle is great. Good job FoCP - looking forward to your events.

I was sent a link to some musical floor chimes in Amsterdam. Judging by the other YouTube videos which pop up with this one, grown-ups may enjoy these public music gadgets even more than kids.

We had a lovely time in the musical garden the other day, and were delighted to see the new revolving gong thing (also the things you jump up and down on to make notes seem to be moving more smoothly, and can now be sounded by a smallish three year old). Thanks to Ceri for the update.

We have been visiting and enjoying this throughout the holidays. Especially pleased that there is no age limit to the garden so our 24 year old son with learning disabilities can enjoy the fun. He too likes the large 'ship's bell' best.

Glad that the musical garden is proving popular. Saddi, it was you over ten years ago who urged us to campaign for better facilities in the park for people with disabilities so the creation of the garden is partly down to you.

Message to all - We're planning a series of events to celebrate the garden with a follow on sustainability grant from the Lottery in the coming year. Next meeting of Friends of Chestnuts in the cafe at 1.30pm on Sat 14 January. We're also hoping to talk to someone from the parks dept about the deteriorating situation of the pavilion and other urgent park problems like the abandoned portaloos.

Ceri
