From yesterday's New York Times:
'On a recent evening, over a couple of half-pints of lager (served rather icy, by British standards, at £1.50, or $2.45, each), the writer Ruth Cherrington reclined in the maroon upholstered lounge of the Langham Working Men’s Club in North London. The scene was quiet. The barmaid hovered near the bar’s sole patron: a white-haired gentleman in a leather coat who was watching the BBC’s “Great British Bake Off” on TV. Walls were cluttered with dartboards, billiard scores, trophies and advertisements for bingo nights. “People want something more trendy, that’s the thing,” said Ms. Cherrington, with an apologetic look around the empty space.'
