Yes, my (older) children and I felt somewhat 'apart ' from the the majority of people taking part in the Lantern Parade too but I think that's possibly a sign of the times (and I'm sure the lack of a thank you was an oversight). Years ago there were hardly any families with school age children in our road, now there are far more younger children.
John, I also had a couple of negative comments wrt to the Hurtle but that was mainly to do with the doughnuts. Next time the PSA will provide alfalfa sprouts and a plate of mashed yeast (but as far as I am concerned, if doughnuts are good enough for the Crouch End Fun Run, then they are good enough for the Harringay Hurtle!). But maybe we should have got them from Dunn's rather than Gregg's Sainsbury's.
And HoL isn't representative of the Harringay community imo.
I would 'lose' as much as the next woman, re my choices in future. I just despair about what will happen to the next two generations after me and want someone to do something, now.
I'm frantically looking for my certificate of ownership in a square foot of Islay - given free with a bottle of whisky.
And collect all my years and years of back rent? (One wee dram p.a.)
I've got one of those... somewhere. Wooppee!
Then, Justin, let's all start putting our certificates together, saving every one of the annual wee drams. In 203 years time our descendants will own most of Islay and possibly Scotland. Which will contain vast mountains of vats of stupendously invaluable whisky. Which will inevitably be accepted as the world's golden reserve currency.
Sure, HG Wells had a very similar idea in The Sleeper Awakes. But that used compound interest as a plot device. The Laphroaig Standard is the real thing.
Gone up over 30% in two weeks in my road. Estate agents call us Ally Pally borders, I call us Wood Green, off Station Road.
£375000 two weeks ago, £500000 today. Maybe down to The Times naming Ally Pally as one of top 100 areas to live in UK last Sunday. No hope for my kids if they want to buy in London.
