Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!
The ASOS Stitching Academy opens in Hermitage Road, Harringay
A unique fashion academy that will help hundreds of young people achieve qualifications to find work in the industry has been launched, with the support of Haringey Council.
The ASOS Stitching Academy, in Hermitage Road, Harringay, is a collaboration between the fashion firm and local manufacturer Fashion Enter to provide internships and apprenticeships for the borough’s young people.
Under the first stage of the scheme, 120 young people will complete a qualification in stitching skills in a six-week internship, and at least 40 will go on to jobs, further education or apprenticeships.
Jenny Holloway, managing director of Fashion Enter, said:
"Real qualifications for stitching and machine skills that can fill the current job vacancies in garment manufacturing today are vital.
"Funding has to be carefully targeted to relevant initiatives and training has to be specific to the needs of the market – receiving this support across both areas through the Stitching Academy could place Haringey at the heart of a ‘made in Britain’ revolution."

I was not being negative jut a bit realistic. But it seems to me we need to find a source of material for this sort of work that does NOT reply on agriculture and or imports. Maybe something recycled? Plastic bags make fleeces - is that a guide? They are more like felt than threads but who knows? How about tetra packs - I'd love to have a reason to even like the things! But your argument is strong and needs an audience.

Michelle, you might be surprised to see what a small sample of 16 - 17 olds (potential future voters and about the age such a scheme as above might be aimed at) think re govt spending; 'cut benefits definitely' they say. But yes, education is of course big on their minds. Take at look. It's quite interesting Newsnight 25th Sept (see at 27mins 22secs in).
