Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

To whoever cleared a large section of the passage this morning. Made it much safer and easier to walk.

There were several of us actually. Mind, the guy I want thank is the guy who cleared the entire length of my street on his own.

My goodness that's above and beyond the call.

I have to say that last year's snow certainly didn't bring out the best of the good citizens of my east Harringay street. After three days of snow and (more to the point) ice on the pavements (making my mother a virtual prisoner in our house) I set out that evening with a heavy iron shovel and started to chop and clear the ice. I went about forty yards up the road towards the school and as at least one resident stood in a doorway smoking and doing nothing to help I was joined by one other person - to wit, my (then) nine year-old son.

We beavered away for about an hour (do beavers clear ice..?) and then decided that was enough for one night.

Course, the next day the thaw came and within a couple of hours the road was just about clear.

(Smacks head)

Made me think twice about doing it again, sad to say.

It's not really like giving presents. You don't go round handing presents out to people who live on your street who you don't know, do you! Or do you? ;)

Then again, I do see your point and you're right, I should do it anyway... especially as I know there are elderly and infirm folk on our road.

Then again what I found also is you need to do it early if possible. If the snow melts and then freezes - as happened last year - you've got compacted ice which is a devil to clear. Fortunately it's not so bad this time around. Mind you there's plenty of time for more snow :-

Are you on Pemberton?  If so, that was my man *grins proudly*

Just to add my thanks to everyone who cleared the Passage yesterday. The walk to SH school was made very easy this morning for lots of unsteady little (and not so little) legs. Using the Passage was by far the easiest way to get up and down the Ladder today!
