Has anyone had any experience with Thames Water's free pipe replacement?
Apparently, we have a leaking supply pipe from the street which they have offered to replace for free - but do they do it carefully or do they just rip everything up and leave a giant mess?
We spent a lot of time and money getting the front garden nicely finished so wondering if it might actually be better to get a careful replacement done ourselves rather than have to try and fix up a thoroughly destroyed front garden later?
Any info, experiences or reassurance very much appreciated!

Where they can (as in our case) they use a 'mole' device to push a hole for the new pipe through the earth of the front garden, rather than dig a trench. They will have to excavate a smallish pit to make the connection at the house end of the new pipe but if you're lucky that will be into existing concrete abutting the house front wall. If you're passing you could take a look - it's the southernmost 'proper' full-length Ladder road i.e. not Endymion, and no. 46 (reverse these digits). Overall, the contractors they used did a decent job, I'd say.
