Telephone Scam alert
An attempt, on my unlisted landline number, from this number 02085579313 to verify or talk to an advisor about a £600 visa charge. I picked up the phone because it showed the number, most scams, I thought were from unlisted numbers.

We had exactly the same, didn't check the number as it wemt to voicemail. Our landline is unlisted too.
I expect they use auto diallers to dial numbers one by one in a series, and spoof plausible local numbers to trick people into answering.
The strong American accent is a dead giveaway and clearly this is being done from overseas without enough customisation for the UK. I think the message we received even said 600 dollars.

I block the numbers after answering. BT can even block a withheld number. Still they keep coming.

I got a text on my phone, saying £64 had been taken out of my credit card. If not me, to click on the link and let them know. Doh. I clicked on the link, luckily my Samsung spotted it was a scam and blocked it. Rang my visa company whom told me it was a text scam, and if my phone hadn’t blocked it when I clicked the link, the scammers would hav had access to all my funds
