Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I've just had a visit from a young woman asking me if I'd "had the papers through the post about my discount package". I asked her which company she represented and she said she was from "the telephone" and that they were changing over the lines in this area. When I pressed her to say who she worked for she admitted it was Talktalk, and muttered something about my neighbour telling her I might like to hear from her.

I get very angry at this kind of obfuscating sales technique (I once had someone tell me "I'm the gas lady") and told her I would report her. but I don't know who to. Can't get through to anyone at Talktalk, but surely she is working on the edge of legality?

Alan. Do you have a name & number/ email of anyone there that might have an interest in this? I was a bit worried after I saw these posts that this may be an exercise in identifying venerable households that might be good targets for burglars...
Justin, if the worry is about potential burglaries, then I suggest your first call is to the Police Safer Neighbourhoods Teams.

But from most posts, the concern seems to be about bad practice by salespeople trying to miss-sell phone or internet packages. Which is why I suggested Trading Standards. Just ring the main switchboard and ask for that team. (Let me know if you have a problem getting through to someone helpful.)
Hi Maddy,

I had this very irritating woman at my door too. As soon as I said I was with Sky she scarpered, so it seems more likely to be a pushy sales rep than a prospective burglar, but the point is you can't really know can you.

TalkTalk today voted worst company by The Times. Can't link due to Times paywall but you could buy the Times today or pay £1 online to read it.

Bitter Wallet website was a clear twelve months ahead. With a total of 573 votes cast they voted them worst company of 2010.

Not only does Bitter Wallet have no paywall, but they run the famous Feral Trolley of the Week award. So do send them your photos of self-propelled Sainsbury's carts heading up Green Lanes.
