Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!
Take notice. Woodlands Park Road new school pedestrian street zone from 7th March!
Woodlands Park Road new SCHOOL PEDESTRIAN STREET ZONE coming into effect from 7th March!! I have just noticed that the signs are up and a very small notice from the council put on a nearby land post. PLEASE AVOID during restricted times 8:30 to 9:30 am and 3:00 to 4:00 pm. If you go through during the restricted hours you get a £130 fine reduced to £65 if you pay early.

By the way, for those who live on the same road, We are meant to have a letter posted to us but I am still waiting for it and this is going to start in 7 days!!!

Are you sure about Terront Road? The map on the Haringey website has the northern most part of woodlands park road marked as restricted, with culross close also eligible for permits as it would otherwise be inaccessible.
Seems an odd choice as Terront Road seems likely to get busier with people going around, at least until the St Ann's LTN closes all through motor traffic, and looks like the school uses the entrance that side too!

Sorry, you are right. Terront Road is not in the restricted Zone. I thought it was on the original plan and I saw something recently changed on the parking and signs at the top of the road that made me believe that it was in preparation for this change too. So all the traffic will be diverted to this road and Etherley Road. I will amend the post.

Hi Miriam, can you keep us updated on receipt of letter!!! I live in a block of 15 flats and none of us received a letter.

Hi, I think we are not going to get the letter I am afraid. So please let everybody you know about it, as starts on Monday and there will be no excuses. Do you live in Culross close? You may be able to get a permit but you will need to apply immediately or try to remember the restriction. If you are parked inside the restriction, I think you are allowed to leave. But I would be worried about doing that because I don't trust it.

Hi Miriam, thanks for reply. I am for the scheme. The signage is atrociously useless though. I turned left into Waverley Road, got a fine, got my appeal to Haringey rejected, appealed to the Traffic Adjudicators Tribunal, and they adjourned until Haringey can prove the advance warning signs were in place on the day of my alleged contravention (28 September 2020 15:24 pm), the photos provided by Haringey were date stamped 26th November 2020, two months after alleged contravention. My case is that the signage in this situation was inadequate for the motorist. Will the signs now be changed for the better by the council? The outcome will be decided by 14th March. You will not get a pcn for leaving a School Street in restricted hours.

Miriam- I park my car on the driveway so I need to access the road to park my car and I was not aware of new restrictions. Apparently Haringey sent letters to residents informing of new restrictions. I live in a block of 15 flats with a door entry system and none of the residents I have spoken to received a letter. I believe that letters might have been sent to permit holders but I am not one as I park on my driveway. My car is parked about 100metres from junction. I got an exemption once I received the pcn

Hi, We knew that they were going to introduce the restriction because we had a consultation back last year, can remember when. However, we did not know the date when they were coming up. So when I noticed something was up I try alert everyone. Someone else in my road Whatsapp group that has been in contact with the council told me that we will receive a letter and also when you go to the council page on this matter it says letters drop (to residents) but we did not get such a letter. However, this would not be a sufficient reason for overturning such contraventions and they will refer to signs on the road and notice posted on the lamppost in addition to having it advertised on the local press which is not that local Leaderlive or The Northem Eco (never heard of them before). I guess we don't have a local newspaper anymore. it will be good to have one though.
This is what they say on the council's website:
"In addition to on-street traffic signs, we will inform the public via:
- letter drop
- statutory notification
- social media
- updates to navigation apps (Google Maps, Waze, etc.)
- messaging from the schools
- on-street banners and posters"

Well done!! I am glad you won. I think it is outrageous that they did not communicate changes to residents. I think communication is key for any support. Otherwise, you antagonise the community which the council is trying to serve. Some councils have reversed this kind of scheme because of the lack of community support. I think better communication with the local residents is a must and by that I mean, not just the people living/working or parking in the restricted area, (which was your case), but letting know the entire ward that the changes are happening. The whole idea is to make the community change their way of life, but we like to know in advance what changes we need to make, rather than making us change through penalties when we are not aware of the changes.

I think most people are, I certainly I am too, it is just that you like to know that it is happening, that something has changed.
