Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

This handsome fellow has found his way into my garden - I know not how -  and I doubt whether he will be able to find his way out unaided.  I propose to try helping him later today (about 3pm).  This will mean either opening a way through the fence to the New River or herding him right through the basement garage to the street and then down the footpath.  Any volunteers welcome.  Free tea and biscuits afterwards.

just spoke to the swan sanctuary people they know about the swan and will be down tomorrow. He said the swan would very much appreciate some bread if anyone is passing.

I shall go down the garden later this evening and deliver some swan food.

Good on ya!

Glad to hear the swan is being fed

Any updates?

I saw two adult swans heading for the Hornsey bridge a few minutes ago so presumaby Dick's has been released.

At 10pm last night the adult pair were still confronting the trapped swan and I had to drive them off with a torch beam before I could throw pieces of bread that would float through the bars to the prisoner.

Three of the RSPCA's finest arrived this morning and spent a frustrating hour trying to drive the bird towards a device like a shepherd's crook.  They eventually referred the matter by phone to someone connected with "Swan Rescue" and then departed.  After a while, Laurent of Swan Rescue arrived along with a further RSPCA officer.  This time their efforts were successful and, at about 2pm, Laurent made off with the bird with the intention of taking him to their animal hospital to be checked over and eventually released elsewhere.  I missed the denouement as I was out but Huw was at home to help and let the swan catchers through the garden.  Apparently, they managed the job easily by the simple expedient of having a longer crook.

Laurent said they would be willing to try catching a swan in the garden if it happens again.  This is supposing that Mr Fox didn’t get there first.

I now have telephone numbers for Laurent and Kevin of Swan Rescue for future reference.

Case now closed and thanks to everyone who responded and commented.
