Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Our street - Umfreville - has been vandalised for the second time last night. Plants and shrubs torn apart and scattered in the road, car windscreen wiper snapped. a wall damaged. A few weeks ago someone (probably the same person) snapped off several of our new street trees, which we fundraised for last year. A bit heartbreaking and also scary.

I'm wondering if any other streets have seen this pattern of damage or if we are uniquely targetted - I'm assuming that some kind of drug house has opened up again locally, as there have also been several cases of people collapsed in the street or wandering delirious on Green Lanes.

We keep reporting things to the police, but so far nobody has actually responded or been round to see what is happening.

Maybe residents can check their RING doorbells, if they overlook the vandalised area and pinpoint a culprit

Branches of young trees have been broken off in Rutland Gardens

What a shame. There must bee some doorbell camera footage. Have the police been involved?

Unfortunately respect for peoples property has become non existent by the youth of today .

Stricter punishment is needed , house arrest and make parents more responsible for their children's actions , also community service has to be enforced plus the legal age for young offenders should be lowered to 14 .

Sorry

Sorry but how do you know it was a young person doing this?.

The youth of yesterday: perfect. There was no crime at all, in fact, before this generation of youth appeared. Thanks for reminding us, John. Crime is an entirely new phenomenon in London, spawned by the hundred or so under 18 year olds who live on, or near the Ladder. We should lock all under 18s up, I think, as a precaution. The little monsters. And it's a mystery why a young person (or old person) might turn to vandalism when they have so much to do, funded so excellently by the state. The luckiest generation ever.

I also had plants damaged and scattered. I’m on Wightman Road. I thought it was just me. I suspect it was on the same night as you had problems on Umfreville, Maddy.

By chance I got one of the plants back: I saw it discarded on the corner of Burgoyne Road. That made me think it wasn’t a criminal stealing plants for money, but (as you say) someone under the influence, acting erratically.

I’d be glad to know if anyone has doorbell footage.

Do you use Met Engage? I recommend going to one of the police surgeries they often advertise there

I noticed the damage the other day when walking up Umfreville. Awful to see those new trees snapped and broken. No response from the 'authorities'? That's just not good enough. I hope there's some action/investigation soon.

Damage also to street trees and front garden plants on Cavendish Road over the past two weeks

Awful. Sorry to hear it

We had a lot of problems on Mattison Road a few years back. the police were involved. Seemed to be one offender housed unsupervised at the top of our road I think
