I rarely use Google Docs, but opened it tonight to look for something my son had written. I seem to be connected to hundreds of files going back several years in connection with an NHS property deal, which is nothing to do with me. Could this be part of the recent hack? Something has gone very wrong - these are cleary confidential documents and I've no idea how I gained access. More to the point, how do I make it stop?

It’s probably worth seeing who has accessed the files - might give you a clue to what’s been going on, then change your password and settings to only allow access to whoever you wish to give permission to
Outside possibility that the files contain Macro virus.
You ( the Mark) takes the bait by downloading files (Word or Excel) to desktop and opening. Thereby setting off a virus or trogen that deletes hard disk or empties your bank account.
Outside possibility but by no means uncommon - if fact this is the common method of infection. Particularly if you are target of malign government agency or just money grabbing criminals.
There are hundreds of them going back to April 2021 and stil ongoing. I dont know how to delete/opt out of them without opening the files, which it has been suggested I should not do. I think it probably isn't a hack, but somehow I've got onto an inappropriate share list.
