Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Hello

I think this post probably belongs in the "long shot" category. But because I'm a bit desperate, I thought it might be worth a try

My bike was stolen last Thursday from outside a building on City Road in Islington (where it was chained up).

It's a bit tragic, but I really loved that bike, and it was the only thing I owned that had any real value. I'm resigned to the fact that I'll probably never see it again. However, on the off chance that anyone sees it for sale, I thought I'd post the details here:

It was a dark grey, small frame, women's Specialised Vita Elite with black mudguards.

Although it was coded by the Bike Register, it turns out that the police hadn't forwarded the paperwork to the database; and I, in my stupidity, never thought to make a note of the number, so it can't be traced that way.

Like I said, I'm sure I won't see it again -- but, if nothing else, perhaps seeing this post will save someone else from the same fate by making them especially vigilant.

Thanks for reading!

Josephine

I feel your pain. Awful thing to happen. It could come up on wwwbikeshd.co.uk a website which amalgamates all bikes for sale sites, ebay, gumtree etc. The thieves usually wait a bit before they put bikes on there. One of our stolen bikes was found on there and the police helped to retrieve it. Worth a go...

I don't know how I missed that website. I've been wasting an hour or so a day checking the individual sale sites so that will make things easier. Thanks! I'm sorry you've experienced the same thing -- but it's good to know that they don't always get away with it...

Yeah, and once the description is typed in etc you'll get updates if the bike does show up. I really hope it does. We also looked around brick lane market for a couple of Sundays. It was fruitless in terms of finding our bikes (3 stolen that time!) but we had a good day out! Good luck!

Yes, look at Ebay too. I knew of someone getting their bike back after seeing it and arranging to meet the 'seller'...

wwwbikeshd pulls all the websites together, Justin including Ebay. It's really good :-)

Oh no, not you too! It's especially tough when you're attached to your bike -- a bit like someone coming along and walking off with the family dog

Thanks for the tip about Schlater Street. I'm trying not to dwell on it. But I'm definitely not wiser than you: I find my eyes following everyone I see on a small, dark grey bike. I worry that, if I see a similar-looking bike, I'll tear off after some poor innocent cyclist...it's probably a good job that there aren't many of the same model on the road!

Its just horrible- i have had about 10bikes stolen over the last 30y, some my own fault, as only 1 cheap lock, but mostly just proffessional scum bags- police say check brick lane- stolen bikes being sold there on a weekly basis- its really big business

i now use 2 locks always and try not to lock my bike outside for anytime, and my good bike always stays indoors
