Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Has anyone noticed this activity on the increase ? Today in Muswell Hill outside one of the many charity shops there I saw two people brazenly nicking about 6 - yes 6 ! bags of what looked like carefully washed and folded childrens clothes, toys and generally good quality stuff...the thing is some kind person has donated their unwanted goods for a good cause ...I tried to shout at them but was met with abuse..

anyone got any comments or possible solutions ?

Charities shops rely on good quality donations and it should go to raising money for that specific charity as the donor intended !

Yes, I've noticed this too. But there is an easy way around it - don't leave bags of stuff outside the shops! The shops are very aware that this happens which is why they ask that people wait until they are open until they drop stuff off.

I wonder if it is the same people that are going around rifling through bins? I came out of my front door the other day to find a foreign lady half way upside down in my wheelie bin! She was brazenly pulling out junk from the rubbish. When I said 'excuse me' (I was lost for words) she just said 'I find theeez, theeez, and theeez' inside - pointing  to her leather jacket and jeans. To be honest, I'm all for recycling, but felt this was a bit invasive and she didn't care that I was stood there, she just carried on routing about. I think she was Albanian? Then I see the new junk shops opened next to Tesco Metro and a load of it looks like it could have come from rubbish, to be honest. Are they really charity shops? They look so shabby :(

Seems like the new charity shop in Salisbury Promenade (near Tesco's) is definitely kosher. I also rang the head office who confirmed that everything's above board.

Hugh, I think 'definitely kosher' in this context may be definitely haraam. 'Definitely halal', perhaps ?

Mmm, I was aware of the potential for eyebrow raising as I wrote, but felt no one was likely to take offence so left it as was.

A new post on the shop you mention here, Ms Moore.

One person's 'waste' is another person's 'value'. The line between recycling and thieving can be unclear.

don't agree...the two are completely separate

I'd be interested to read your view, Emma. Please add more.

Its a tricky one as however for recycling you are (and it borders on religion for me) I do not wish to be offering anyone a free pass to my front 'garden'. A few years ago I came out side to find some scruffy looking oik rummaging, and a couple of weeks later my bikes were nicked from the front.

How to I differntiate the 'rummiger' from the potential burglar? That is the problem.
