Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

The play area at Stationers Park in-between Crouch End & Stroud Green re-opened at the weekend following a £160,000 refurbishment. Around 200 people from the area attended for a celebration with a mediaeval theme.

The council provided £50,000 for the project with other funding coming from environmental organisation, Biffaward, the Making a Difference Fund and a Community Spaces grant. The previous playground was opened in 1986 had come to the end of its useful life.

The refurbishment kept some elements of the old fort, which was very popular with children and something of a local landmark. The playground now boasts a castle play structure with walkways, slides and a high bridge with platforms. Natural play such as fallen logs and tepees have been included in the design plus a swing, stepping and climbing logs and a giant revolving disc.

Certainly looks a bit different since I was at Stationers back in the 1960s!  Mind you, some of the staff seemed to have a mediaeval theme then so perhaps not that different......  Glad to see the old site being utilised for community benefit.
