Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

The play area at Stationers Parkin Mayfield Road, Stroud Green, re-opened at the weekend following a £160,000 refurbishment. Around 200 people from the area joined the Deputy Mayor of Haringey, Cllr David Browne, for a celebration with a mediaeval theme.

The council provided £50,000 for the project with other funding coming from environmental organisation, Biffaward, the Making a Difference Fund and a Community Spaces grant. The previous playground was opened in 1986 had come to the end of its useful life.

Cllr David Browne, Deputy Mayor of Haringey, said: “The design of the new playground is the result of extensive consultation with local people, including children and young people who considered the new designs. The Friends of Stationers Park have been very actively involved at every stage of the project and I would like to recognise their huge commitment to making this such a success.”

The refurbishment kept some elements of the old fort, which was very popular with children and something of a local landmark. The playground now boasts a castle play structure with walkways, slides and a high bridge with platforms. Natural play such as fallen logs and tepees have been included in the design plus a swing, stepping and climbing logs and a giant revolving disc.
