Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

The Evening Standard is today running a story under the title "Jade's mother attacks school over ban on cancer jabs":
Jade Goody's mother today attacked a Haringey school for banning jabs against cervical cancer, the disease that killed the reality TV star at the age of 27.
Jackiey Budden spoke after the Standard revealed Hornsey School for Girls headteacher Carol Jones had suspended the vaccination programme for 12- and 13 year-olds because it disrupted lessons, with pupils finding it "hard to settle" and getting "hysterical" after having jabs.

As a parent in the school I can only share my experience and I am confused by all this. Does The schools response say it is not yet finalised as to what action they are going to take? My daughter brought home a form a long time ago to sign and send of to a health centre. As I have not been to well myself recently and facing a health scare I forgot about it until my daughter reminded me at which point we could not find the form. I rang the health centre and I was told to come in and get a form which I still havent done because I keep forgetting about it. So I imagine I am far from the only parent who still has not had her daughter immunised yet.  I will have to speak to my doctor and see if he can sort it. Point being with my elder daughter it was a simple case of signing a form, daughter taking it back to school and all was sorted.

I'm sorry you have health problems but if you keep forgetting to do this, why don't you ask your daughter to go to the health centre to get the form ? Then she gets you to sign it and takes it back to the health centre.

I think it would be easier going to the doctors.... its just the remembering as I am having real difficulty at the moment. I will get it sorted just pointing out how much simpler it is having it done in school. It would have been over and done with last month. I can see with busy parents and those with major health issues and problematic lives the jab  could easily be forgotten, especially when the daughters are needle phobic  and dont want it in the first place.

OK, so you're saying she's incompetent or uncaring? I can't work it out.

Ok John.... I am sure CJ is neither of these at heart. I dont have any personal problems with her as a person, she seems very lovely, you seem to be getting very personal about her. I have  issues over certain leadership actions that she has and has not taken though, most definitely! There have been many problems with organisation, communication, and responsivness  in my experience and  there is a great sense of control which limits interactions between the school and the parents to what the school wants to discuss and develop. There is a success story posted in the recent news letter about about the HSG safety and behaviour conference were students, parents and governors met to discuss these issues and 'It was a success because it gave everyone in the school a chance to take part and have their voice heard.'  it was a controlled meeting with a set agenda.  Were is the parents forum or parents association which allows parents to have their own say and set their own agenda's?  I sent an email to Jenny Smith last week asking when the next parents curriculum forum is taking place, the only parents group that I know of which is still sadly in my view strongly controlled by the school, I  am still awaiting a a reply.  The motto of the new schools logo is  'FORTIOR QUO PARATIOR' – translates as ‘the stronger because the more prepared’. Perhaps if the school leadership prepared less and allowed the parents to grow stronger in their support and involvement it would sow the seed for a greater community spirit. Parents views and suggestions could become a valuable resource for the school. I believe improvement between home and school is vital to the success of the students and so does the school in essence as its mission statement  says  'Develop positive links with parents and our local community'  Perhaps this is a problem in many secondary schools? It would be good to know how the parent school links occur in other secondary schools in the borough perhaps I might do some research. I would appreciate comments from other parents from other schools as to what involvement or lack of that they experience.
