Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Raleigh Road was resurfaced recently and the speed bumps have been removed. Has this happened in other ladder roads? Has there been any consultation with local residents? Very worrying as cars are being driven dangerously fast.

New 20 mph limit means more money fining drivers instead perhaps ... ?

When part of Hewitt Road was resurfaced the problematic speed hump was eventually replaced, but many months after the resurfacing. Perhaps it's a use-up-budgets-at-year-end job.

There's been ongoing discussion on this site - and probably others - about the effectiveness of speed bumps. With different views and opinions expressed strongly for and against.

Removing existing bumps from a road without notifying or consulting residents would be crass, if that's what happened .

But in any case, I would hope Haringey Highways staff would use such a change as an opportunity to measure the speeds of traffic  'before' and 'after'. A real life experiment.

P.S. Gordon T.  I assume you're joking, as end of the Municipal year is March.

All I can say is some drivers are bombing along, much faster than before when we had speed bumps. Will ring Council on Tuesday to see what is going on.

I stopped a guy on Sunday, he called me all sorts of names, I quoted his registration number at him and he sped off. I hate the speed humps but I hate the race track driving people do without them even more.

Nope, Alan. I don't live on Hewitt so I don't have dates, but I am sure it was multiple months between resurfacing and rehumping, to the extent I thought it was a permanent removal (after all the fuss.....).

They resurfaced a road around here. The speed humps are still there, just, but now they're just gentle slopes and unmarked.

Which road is it, Madeline? I'd like to take some photos.

Perth Rd, N4. Just off Stroud Green Rd.

Cars have been going as fast as 40 up Raleigh Road, maybe even faster. My neighbour has also had her cat run over, the guy admitted that he was doing 50. What if that was someone's child?

Seems it's urgent for Haringey to do some speed checks. As well as telling residents the position.

Anyone contacted Cllrs Stuart McNamara (Environment); and Cllr Bernice Vanier (Community Safety)?

I agree - the speeding on Raleigh Rd. is very noticeable. And I do have a young child so this new arrangement is worrying.
