Some sort of protest on Green Lanes?

Yeah, it was quite tense for a few minutes, but as others have said the whole thing was over so quickly.

We heard shouting and looked out of the window to see a group of maybe 15 or 20 people marching up onto Green Lanes. They formed a roadblock - one or two people were also taking pictures or filming - and waved flags and chanted.

The traffic, for no discernible reason whatsoever, started hooting at them as if that would somehow magically make them change their minds. One woman shouted out of her window that she had kids in the car, before reluctantly turning around and trying another route. When the van tried to force its way through, the entire group turned on it, kicking it, punching the windows, and throwing bottles as it eventually drove away.

There was obviously a lot of anger, and that's fine, but to turn it against someone that's just trying to get past was pushing it a bit far - and was the point at which it looked like it could turn a bit nasty.

But then that was pretty much it. It wasn't long after that that they marched off back the way they came. Several police cars arrived a few minutes later and sort of patrolled the area for a bit, before apparently giving up.

I live right by the Kurdish centre and was jolted out of a quiet night mood around 10.15 by first the fireworks and then by the protest. This is not the first time they had had a night time protest and it really is out of order, no concern whatsoever for local residents. We cant do much about the situation of the Kurds and this is not the way to win sympathy. If this were a gang of black teenagers running around, they'd probably be all rounded up and arrested. 

How can we politely express our concerns to the Kurdish centre that a. we are sympathetic and want to understand their anger but b. its not fair on local residents to have to put up with these late night noisy outbursts?

Yes we live near the Kurdish Centre too and have become accustomed to these regular noisy events for which we are given no warning or explanation. The angry shouting in a quiet residential area can be very intimidating when you haven't a clue what's going on, how long it may last and whether it will get any worse. Fortunately this was short in duration. Be grateful to anyone who can get them to understand the impact these events have.

I'd imagine that the Gardens Residents' Assoc have contact with them and I wouldn't be surprised if they've even discussed this issue with them.. It would be worth contacting them. Contacts via the HoL wiki.

They are at it again at the moment.

Police van is there "overseeing" it. So Green Lanes partially blocked outside Barclays.
