Having just consumed two large and delicious veggie curries, I was of course drawn to the fact that last week was
National Curry Week and enjoyed reading about the fascinating life history of the man who opened the first curry house in Britain
Sake Dean Mahomet who opened the Hindoostanee Coffee-House in 1810 near Portman Square.
Britain's relationship with curry, of course, reflects its trade and later colonial past but as we see here from
this blog, curry features in English recipe books as far back as 1748.
If all this talk is making you long for a Sunday night curry, check out
our list of recommendations and maybe add your own.
Or perhaps you can tell us your fave curry cookbooks in

There's also
a few nice recipes on the Nat Curry site that look pretty good too.
