The Palm - 197 Philip Lane N15 4HQ (fka The Lord Palmerston) - from the owners of True Craft

http://https://www.pubology.co.uk/pubs/7021.html  just seen that The Green Gate has been sold in September, I suspect it will be turned into flats, just a guess though

I tried the Porter which was very tasty, Not so heavy as Guiness.
It was Schwarzwalder from Stroud Brewery.

Went along to The Palm last night.
Impressed, very busy with nice crowd and good range of beer.
Food looked tasty and they plan to do Sunday lunches.
A great addition to the area.

I has a taster if that one, the one I meant was on the other side of the bar as you enter, far left tap.   Maybe it wasn't a porter.  Anyhoo,   just gives an excuse to go back and try more, always a silver lining

I had a really nice session IPA there at lunch today, 4% so not heavy at all. Had a chat with the bar staff and owner. Seemed like a pleasant crowd - families and some couples.

I'm going back to check the evening crowd over the next couple of days.

Great place. It'll be packed come the summer.

It's The Black Pig Irish stout, very tasty

Bit kid happy at 4:30 today. I'd like a more central beer menu (the one up is surrounded by a crowd of families)

But otherwise, great selection of beer. I'm rather partial to the place.

I went to a friends Christmas soirée last knight and they said it was kid friendly in the day / early evening, but True Craft is the same as well.  All good with me as long as it makes the business a going concern.  Black Pig, that's the one, and yes very nice.  I'm rounding up my friends who haven't been for the next visit, as a few of them had been there when it was the Lord Palmerston, spit and sawdust was the general description.  I think they'll be surprised

I used to watch the football there infrequently. The place used to be rammed for the big games and the beers were as limited as the food.

But for me, it's more important that pubs stay open and this looks like it's found a future.

You never know, one day a government might, just might, switch the tax onto supermarket sales which would encourage people back out to meet their neighbours and bring these places back to the heart of communities. I won't hold my breath tho.

Meanwhile. I'd recommend people check it out while they can. As I said before, "come the summer the place will be packed" you might even have to book if you want a table.

I doubt they will let you book. I gave up on True Craft after going several times when they were full and them not letting us make a booking -- instead, you have to hover over tables waiting for people to leave and try and swipe them before any of the other waiting patrons got there. It felt like strategically angling for a seat on the tube.

Hi Lina - we had the same experience but never had to wait that long to get some chairs/ table and the pizzas are worth the wait.  The Palm is much bigger, almost twice the size and that doesn't include the beer garden.  Give it a go, probably after 7, I'm sure the novelty factor is keeping it busy during the day early eve with families, but we went @ 7.30 and it was fine.
