Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Hi all,

I recently met Hugh at a Google event in CONEL, he mentioned that I should post something so here I am!

I help to run a social enterprise called involver and a new not for profit called the Smart School Councils Community. We're based over in the Bernie Grant Arts Centre in Tottenham.

95% of the UK's schools have a school council (elected group of young people), but many of them actually give a poor first taste of democracy.

We help schools to make sure that school councils are youth-led, not tokenistic and that they give students lots of really important skills. We deliver training, resources and support to schools to do this - and also help other organisations like the UK Parliament, the Children's Commissioner and Haringey Youth Council do the same.

Though we work across the UK and Europe, we're really keen to help out Haringey schools.

We're really happy to help out local students, parents, teachers and schools to improve their school council or student leadership, so feel free to get in touch with me at greg@smartschoolcouncils.org.uk. If you'd like to find out more or get involved, then check out our site (links above).

Thanks for listening!

Greg

In the last week of August the Smart School Councils Community is running free training for 11-18 year-olds in leadership and event planning.

You'll plan an event for Haringey's primary schools where you will use the skills you've learnt to help them improve their school councils.
