Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Share your views with Haringey Council on their new additional licensing scheme for houses in multiple occupation (HMOs)

In 2019, Haringey Council introduced a borough-wide additional houses in multiple occupation (HMO) licensing scheme, to ensure residents who live in this sector live in safe and well-maintained homes.

All HMOs in Haringey are now subject to licensing, either under the extended mandatory licensing or under the borough-wide additional licensing scheme.

HMOs will require an additional licence if they are rented to at least 3 people who are not from the same household but share facilities like a bathroom and kitchen. Properties converted into self-contained flats that do not meet building regulations are also considered HMOs and will need a licence under this proposed scheme.

The current additional HMO licensing designation in Haringey is due to come to an end on 26 May 2024 and therefore, a new scheme is being proposed to replace this.

If approved, this will start in or around May 2024.

The new proposed additional licensing scheme is currently out for consultation and are inviting responses from landlords, tenants, local businesses or members of the public

This consultation will close on Monday 12 February 2024.
