What message would you take from this notice in the Hornsey Health Centre car park on Park Road?
I, like I'm sure many, people read
PATIENT PARKING ONLY
MAXIMUM STAY 2 HOURS
So, I thought, Good, I'm okay then. What I didn't see was
ALL PATIENTS MUST REGISTER THEIR FULL AND CORRECT VEHICLE
REGISTRATION VIA THE CONSOLE LOCATED IN THE HEALTH CENTRE
TO RECEIVE 2 HOURS PARKING
I can only think of one reason that the sign was designed in such a way so as to make the parking permission very visible, but the condition so much less likely to be noticed.
Failure to notice the condition results in an £85.00 fine.
One expects no better from Euro Car Parks, but I'd expect more from Whittington Health Services. The local team must at the very least be aware of this issue and they have apparently taken no steps to rectify it.
I know for a fact that I'm not the only one to have been caught out. Coincidentally, just ten minutes after I went back to the car park to check the parking notices, the clinic rang me to arrange my next appointment. I mentioned the parking issue. The person commiserated and said she's just got off the phone with a very distraught lady who's also been caught out.
I have a rule of thumb with parking and traffic rules these days. Just follow the rules and NEVER try and bend them - or if you do accept that you may well have to pay the price. But when an operator has clearly gone to some effort to make sure the rules aren't clear, I call foul.
Had it been a private company car park, I may have scrutinised the sign more carefully. But I guess my guard must have been down because it was a hospital.
Needless to say I'll be appealing the fine, but I'm also calling on the Whittington Health Trust to get these signs changed immediately, and to suspend all fines until the change has been made.

The whole site (building, grounds, car park) are owned by a private company. The NHS just rents office space from them and has nothing to do with parking.
I assume they rent the whole plot including parking space as well no? Or, we have an extremely generous landlord giving the clinic's patients's free use of their land.
Here's a very rapid response from the Whittington Chief Exec, Siobhan Harrington:
Dear Hugh
Thank you for your email and bringing this to my attention.
We are a tenant within the Hornsey Central building but as you state absolutely share an interest on behalf of our patients regarding signage and parking. We will look further into the issue and raise with the company who runs the building and parking.
With best wishes
Siobhan
They have a sign on ground floor main reception
That's all well and good if you're going to main reception.
The sign is clearly designed to deceive, Lesley. The signs need changing. There's no excusing them.
People with sight problems having difficulty reading parking notices?
My Doctors Westbury Avenue Practise has a similar system with Parking Eye
Joke is it was 2 Hours now reduced to 90 minutes. Had a appointment at 11.00 got there about 10.40, seen at 11.30 plus and out just before 12.00
Aware was a issue of people parking not using Doctors services. Less than 10 spaces
I found the same thing at the Queenswood medical practice in Park Road. I didn't even notice the sign on the way in but I did see the console for registering my number plate. There were several of us attending a course which was expected to run a bit over 2 hours and we were advised to notify the receptionist who would "sort out any parking problem". One thing I did notice was that the car park was no longer jam packex as it used to be.
There has been debate about this change in the Crouch End forums. There are notices inside the health centre but I expect as there are plenty of notices about other things people are generally oblivious to them. The problem has been caused by people parking there to go to the pool (who charge for parking) or to avoid the residents parking areas or to store untaxed cars meaning people who actually need parking to get to the health centre couldn't get a space. The landlord is the Community Health Partnership if you want to complain as ithey have put in the new restrictions.
I was fined £60 for collecting a friend from North mid hospital even though I had paid by credit card. 14 days after my visit I received a bill. They refused to recognise the £2 charge on my credit card bill as proof of payment. On receipt of the fine I paid it thinking that on appeal it would be repaid. I did this as if you don't pay straight away the fine doubles. When I appealled, the fact that I had paid means that I can't get a refund!!!.THIS IS DAYLIGHT ROBBERY of the sick
I have just had exactly the same issue. I can't believe you have to find a screen in there and enter your number plate it is so unclear. Really annoyed that the reception won't do anything about it. I have also just appealed with proof that I had a Doctors appointment and await the response from Euro Car Parks who a basically shouldn't exisit in the first place.
My understanding is that the Car Park is not controlled by Hospital.
What people forget is that you need to sign in, with vehicle registration Same with Disable Badge Holders. Many park up Not aware camera logs you in and Out
So if you have not registered at Front reception disk they get a Ticket
I have appealed against several fines and to date I have not paid a Fine. As do keep tickets as proof of payment
Another catch is drivers dropping off and waiting then driving through Car Park to Exit Cameras log you in and out. again liable for Fine
