Shake! - a free 5 day course called on arts, media, race and power for young people

In August ( 5th-9th) for young people - a free 5 day course called Shake! on arts, media, race and power.

Shake! is a dynamic youth initiative using art as a powerful non-violent force for change and a celebration of youth voices. Each day Shake! creative workshops provides a space to imagine what justice looks like, experiment with new ideas, learn new tools, work with incredible artists and inspire your imagination. Some of the key themes that influence Shake! are race, media, youth, environmental justice, power and human rights. These dialogues help inform the art-outputs of the young people during the course.

The course, which will be held at the Bernie Grant Arts Centre, takes a group of young people through a series of different arts disciplines, like performance poetry, video making and music technology, while also engaging in a series of stimulating dialogues on the sort of issues faced by young people today, with the aim of these dialogues informing the art-outputs of the young people during the course.

You can get a flavour of how it went from the pilot of the course that took place in 2010 in this video that was made by the young people who took part in the course.

The theme this time is 'Propaganda, Perception and Power!'

The theme was partly inspired by a short film link made by Shake! participants during the last Shake! in Feb, linked here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bRV7MwJ5_e8
