As I walked along Green Lanes this morning, I noticed that Falkland Road is closed at the Green Lanes end. A large Thames Water sewerage tanker is standing in the road blocking all access except for pedestrians. A large shallow hole has been dug in the middle of the road. I spoke to one of the guys on site and was told that the sewer was blocked by a collapse and that to fix it means digging down 2.5 metres. In previous similar cases this means the sides of the hole must be shored up with steel shuttering to prevent cave-ins while the work in progress. Presumably the tanker is there to suck up the sewage coming down the hill from Falkland Road houses between the Harringay passage and Green Lanes. If this case follows precedents, we can expect this work to last well over a week.
I can't see it yet on TW's current issues page.
