Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Hi, we need to sell our house. We've never done this before.

Does anyone have any recent experience of using a local estate agents to sell. Any recommendations or advice  would be most welcome.

(The online diy approach isn't going to work for us as we are moving abroad)

Thanks.

We used Paul Simon and they were decent. Had some minor issues and they were very "estate-agenty" but they put the hard work in and were generally decent with their communication.

Everyone's fees were very similar, what swung us to go with them was we were also looking to buy in the area and Paul Simon were the most pro-active in setting up viewings, recommending properties and trying to sell us properties.

If I hadn't gone with them I'd have looked at Anthony Pepe who seemed decent when I dealt with them. Winkworth's I wasn't overly impressed by: they kept suggesting properties that didn't meet our criteria and would often recommend them multiple times which made me concerned about how they'd market my place.

Thanks. That's helpful.

What we're after is someone who is going to be straightforward with us, so I guess that's not what you meant by "estate-agenty"?

I was thinking of anthony pepe as someone recommended Ben there, but he seems to have moved on. Could you tell me how long ago you dealt with them?

I'll be honest, I think you're going to struggle to get one that isn't "estate-agenty". You're dealing with a load of salesmen and you're going to get a bit of blagging and over-selling, I'd be surprised if Winkworth's or Anthony Pepe were different from my dealings with them. You just need to be aware and take some things with a pinch of salt.

I've been dealing with them since the turn of the year onwards so very recent.

Thought as much. Thanks for the advice.

I would say that I'd use them again if I was looking to sell, it wasn't a bad experience (inasmuch as trying to sell a flat during a global pandemic can be a good experience).

Ben is with Wilkinson Byrne on Turnpike Lane now.

I think he'd meet your criteria for someone straightforward and not too 'estate-agenty'.

Oh right, thanks for the tip. Have you had any dealings with that company?

Julian Reid in Stoke Newington Church Street.  Not a bit estate-agenty. I can’t express how good they were.
Good luck.

Brian Thomas are small and you'll likely get a more personal experience. I did. The larger agencies I spoke to were spivs. Brian Thomas were very competitive with their commission (negotiate). They all use the same platforms so the key is having someone you can trust and get hold of. I recommend these guys.

My husband, The Mindful Estate Agent is definitely not “estate agenty”! Our business ethos is a caring, compassionate & commercially minded approach to property. We’re a family run business based in Haringey, my husband’s been selling homes in the borough for around 20 years. Most recently he was Head of Sales for a well respected national chain. We also market properties through Mr & Mrs Clarke Haringey & Hackney.

I found Castles through recommendations on here, can't recommend them highly enough. Sandro Papparlardo at the Crouch End branch was great.

We had exactly the opposite with Castles. We had a buyer who pulled out and felt compelled to write to us directly, apologising and putting no small portion of the reason down to the behaviour of the agents. Unfortunately it just added to a list of irritations we had with Castles’ overall approach; it all felt like very hard work.
