Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I use this so much to avoid paying 'local' rates and also some 0845 or 0870 numbers cost more from a mobile yet 020 numbers are free as part of my contract

just sharing the wealth

Works a treat, I use this all the time as I am sick of calling numbers and paying for them when I could be using my contract to full efect and caling a land line number.
FREE telephone calls.
This site saves me countless phone charges.
I get depressed when i see people paying 30p - 65p per minute for no reason but laziness.
Go to this site and enter either a company name or premium (rip-off) phone number and it will list many alternative land lines or even 0800 FREE numbers that will connect you to exactly the same company/org department/person.
I also use this site in order to save.

One expects big corporations to be part this telecoms rip-off and sharing in the proceeds (as they do) of the high charges with the scam 0870 and 0845 numbers.

But should one expect government departments, including those supposed to be helping those members of the public in difficultly, also to be joining the rip-off? Perhaps this was what HoL member "inkjetpack" meant when he/she claimed that most public services in this country are run on a business footing

Eg: Work and Pensions' collection of 0845 numbers.

Are these outfits still taking a cut from the telecoms companies by way of 'rebate' or 'out-payment'?

The original (spurious) justification for these rip-offs was that a the whole country could benefit from a single rate. There are only two problems with this: (1) the rate is high and (2) the whole business model of charging more for a longer distance went out the window years ago and the internet proves it. Telecoms companies have high costs and high overheads but the marginal cost to them, of any one phone call, is zero.

A fairer system would be to pay a fixed line rental per month and have no charge per call within the developed world.

.
If you can't find the number you need on saynoto0870 ask the operator at the company you are contacting what number you would use if calling from abroad (fib, perhaps and say you are in France) and you will often get a 'real' number. If you do then submit it to sayno. . .
There's also a free iphone app and on Android, search 0870 in the marketplace on your handset.
