We used Pete Dimitri - a local carpenter who has done lots of work with sash windows and did a great job for us. He also just did some fitted wardrobes for us.

Stroud Green Windows had them carry out a repair to a lower sash window and quote for new wooden double glazed replacements and UPVC

Hi Elinor,

Last year we used John Sisk 07738 532697 who specialises in sash windows to do our sashes, originally purloined from subscription Which Local website where he had good reviews over the years. He restored them so they don't rattle anymore with new spindles, balancing and weighing the sash weights, re cording, they now glide up and down (can now open and close with little finger), they lock and put in a fine invisible brush system to draughtproof them. The rooms are noticeably quieter (internally and from street noise) and retain the heat. Ventillation is there via open fireplaces, so no condensation when central heating is on. Not the cheapest but worth it.

Local neighbours have used John, and have used him elsewhere. He is sash passionate, knowledgeable and thorough, a nice family person with it.

We recently had the sash window in our kitchen repaired by a local company, Acorn Sash Windows http://www.acornsashwindows.co.uk

who did an excellent job. I haven't tried anyone else, as this is the first time we've needed a repair, but I would certainly recommend including Acorn in any list to get quotes from.
