Rug Repairs

We have a much loved kilim type rug in the house. Sadly it is a bit moth eaten (literally) with some of the threads having broken. We are looking to save what we can, and possibly repair the rug. A friend suggested putting a canvas type backing onto the floor side of the rug.

What I wanted to try to find out is whether there might be someone locally that might be able to help repair the carpet.

Any clues as to any one who might be able to save our rug?
