Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I'm not a big royallist but I have to admit to the fact that (on the sly) I'm quite looking forward to the Royal Wedding.  I had hoped that there would be a whole load of street parties going on but I have not heard of any.  Does anybody have one planned in their street?

Apparently there's only one official one in the whole of Haringey (or none depending on who you read). The response to the last discussion on this was a little 'heated' - hope you're ready for the republicans :)
Good grief!  See what you mean!  I just thought it might be nice for my little one to have something fun to do on Royal Wedding day.  So where is the "one official one"?
Muswell Hill way I think.

In case you've missed it, Garry Trudeau gives detailed instructions about how you can attend the event itself. (As an option, with one child.)

11 April. ► 12 April. ► 13 April.

Hornsey Library are running  a Special Event for the Royal Wedding 'Decorate a Crown' to wear for the big day on Thursday 28 April 3.30 to 4.30pm
and Nest in Crouch End are running a (paying) workshop on making decorations. All I can find in Haringey at the moment, I'm afraid
I'm having a "street" party in my garden. It's easier that way! So I suppose it's really a garden party for the street.

omg cant believe people reaction, poor Sophie

One of the docs at work yesterday asked me if I was doing anything for the wedding, I kind of went bit blank-what wedding I thought, and then I remember I get an extra bank holiday i n a couple of weeks and that is def worth a celebrating and would love a party, esp a street party

Yes I'd also love to go to a street party but felt very defeated by reactions when I suggested organising one on this forum. I'm still tempted to try but work's really busy and I'm intimidated by the official stuff you need to do for it and cost. I was thinking to find one somewhere and try and join in.

As an alternative, how would people feel about trying to meet somewhere like Finsbury or Clissold Park and having a picnic? We wouldn't have to pay to shut a street off and people can just bring cakes + lemonade. Any interest?

Now that sounds like just the sort of thing I was looking for!  A bit of community fun, and something going to charity to boot!  Now all I have to do is talk the old man into joining me.
There will be a street party in Summerhill Rd (between West Green Rd and Philip Lane) from 10am to 5.30pm on Fri 29.

HJ reports, there's been a last minute 'rush' and 7 parties are planned:

Redston Road in Hornsey, Langdon Park Road in Highgate, Summerhill Road in South Tottenham, Greenham Road and Eastwood Road in Muswell Hill, Perth Road in Finsbury Park, and Cemetery Road in Tottenham.
