Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I read a piece in the Guardian yesterday about The Rink cinema in Finsbury Park in 1916, and various seedy goings on in the cheap seats. Really interesting, with a great photo of the old cinema, more here:

(I assume it is Rowans - they don't say it but mention it being a bowling alley. Rowans is huge inside and I can imagine it being a cinema).

Thanks for this little gem, Alison. I poked my nose in to Rowan's for the first time the other week. Here's some phone pics of what it now looks like:

I have also just added some more pics of the old cinema to the one I added last month.
Not wishing to blow my own trumpet of course, but the full story of The Rink Cinema can be found in my book "Cinemas of Haringey" available from the Hornsey Historial Society and local independent bookshops. I shall be presenting an illustrated talk about local cinemas on Thursday May 26th at the Big Green Bookshop, Wood Green at 7 p.m. so maybe some of you can come along.
No shame in blowing your own trumpet. We're blowing it for you too.
