Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Hi. Does anyone know where I could get a Roberts radio refurbished. Mine's exterior is flaking off and it needs some TLC. A facebook business page I found appears to be inactive. Thanks.

Hello! There’s a chap at Audio Gold between Crouch End and Ally Pally who might be able to help. He does repairs (eg fixing Robert’s radios so they play again)., not sure about external refurbs. Give them a bell, they’re pretty helpful.

Thank you. I'll get in touch with them.

If it is just the exterior finish flaking, surely you could fix it, or remove the exterior finish and, for example, paint it? What is the original finish?

Possibly.

it's a leatherette exterior so maybe I will take it all off and see if I can find a suitable paint.

How badly is the leatherette peeling off? A photo would help. It might be possible to paint over the whole of the leatherette surface with a matte clear varnish to keep the leatherette in place, and "fix" it so no more peels off. I have a Roberts radio with a similar surface, and it does look nice, so good to retain it if possible. If you post a photo or two, that would help to work out what is best to do.

Here's a photo-thanks for any advice.  I wouldn't have thought of a varnish but I think it's too far gone?

Mine is pretty much the same. Probably worse.

This is definitely too worn to patch up. However, if you carefully remove all the remaining leatherette, to reveal the cabinet beneath (on these models I think that is wood), then you could buy some leatherette (for example, on Amazon) in a colour of your choice, and recover the exterior. Buying a small amount of leatherette is not expensive. It should only then be a matter of cutting to right size/shape, and sticking it to the radio's surface. Good luck.

why not ask the Lordship Hub repair cafe?
