Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

It's looking like my last few tomatoes aren't going to ripen on the vine as I hoped and I'm not sure I've got enough to turn into chutney.

I've googled a few ideas for ripening them indoors but not sure which one to go for. Anyone got a surefire method for me to try?

Put them with over ripe fruit, apples or whatever. The ripening fruit gives off a gas which triggers other fruit to ripen. Also rose petals work similar. Conversley, introducing rotting apples to your cold frame will hasten the flowering process.

Bananas are good for promoting ripening.

Put them in a brown paper bag with a banana.

I have 700g you can have if you want them - moving soon so no time to make or jars to put in :-(.

I put tomatoes on the windowsill and they ripened in about a week - kept the rest in the fridge and did them in batches as I could only do a few at a time - they were mini toms mind.

I also found some great recipes for green tomatoes (none of them Chutney): Enjoy!

Fry them.

Fried green Tomatoes isn't just a book and film, it's a recipe as well. (Who knew?)

Slice them thickly, dust them in semolina or similar, and fry.

Make some Green Tomato Chutney - Delia has just the most yummy sort: http://www.auldfarminn.ca/Green%20Tomato%20Chutney.pdf  I think this is her recipe but its in her big black book (never remember its name!) but I sometimes buy the greeen toms off Green Lanes purely to make this!

Don't think I have enough for chutney, but we did throw some into a curry last night with the 3 tiny cauliflowers I grew this year. I like the look of the Slater chicken recipe. We did Fried Green Toms a couple of years back. I'll probably try a bit of everything suggested here.
