I thought it would be more... different. It's effectively The Garden Ladder without the soft chairs. But the massive crowd in there last night were clearly "loving it"... And that's what counts I suppose!

Yeah, popped in tonight just to have a look, then went straight to the Salisbury where there is a bit of life. Its not gonna make it, sorry.

I don't think I'd agree with that. It was doing pretty well when I passed earlier this evening and there was no free champagne tonight (as far as I know). I was just surprised they hadn't changed the layout of the place.

Don't get me wrong. It seems nice enough and I would be happy for it to prosper, but if the Garden Ladder struggled not sure why this place won't. As people have said, it has pretty much the same feel. I spent the evening in the Salisbury which has a nice buzz, lots of room and the music is not too loud.

Looks nothing like the old Garden Ladder to me - very different feel! And I don't recall the GL being open at the side on hot days like today, which is a definite plus point.

Don't dismiss it on the first try. It's run by locals, it has decent beer and is somewhere new to add to a night on Green Lanes!

"Run by locals, has decent beer.
" So does Lion King, but I wouldn't want to spend the night in there ;-)
We were promised 'ales' but there was only one, from Redemption. I never had a poor pint of this until the opening night cloudy one. Not good enough, guys, especially when at £3.95 it's more than a similar beer in the Salisbury. I will give them one more chance on quality, but I won't be a regular at that price - 60p more than the GLadder - too much!

Camden beers = v good choice!

the lighting is awful and it looks a bit cheap - which is a shame - had high hopes for this - they should have done more - same bar top that the garden ladder had - disappointed but will still give it another go as its early days after all...

Food will probably be the deciding factor for us; I think there's still loads of room for a more varied offering on Green Lanes, and anyone who can do that successfully will have a unique selling point worth talking about.

Interesting that most are talking about the Salisbury being their main competitor, as I would probably now see Jam in a Jar as being an establishment they might want to take some cues from. It's a very similar layout and size, and while we didn't initially really 'get' it, their switch to doing great quality food was what put it seriously on the map for us. We initially went in for dinner when the Salisbury were done serving, expecting nothing special - and were really pleasantly surprised. Now it would be our first choice.

£3.95 is too much for the ale offered. It was cloudy. This judgement is neither penny-pinching nor boring. Get it right, guys.
