Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Hi all,

I have this star light which needs repairing (see attached pictures).

The plastic light fitting has basically burnt out and is disintegrating. Maybe it just needs a new bottom bit, but I can't figure out how to get it off without breaking the whole fitting. And I can't just cut the cable and wire in a new one, as the thread is needed to screw back into the top of the star.

Any idea who might be able to help at a reasonable cost?

Many thanks for any suggestions

Hi,

Looks like the melamine fitting has had its day.

You can get replacements in different places...

John Lewis has options 1 2 3 as do Heals for a pricier, somewhat more desgin range of light fittings the last time I paid a visit.

Closer to home even B & Q, Homebase or any good electrical supplies e.g Sparks Electrical on Holloway rd. Depends on what you are after and how much you need/want to replace and want to pay.

Then you just need to get a good DIYer to splice it in for you. It should be easy.

Hi JJ,

Thanks so much for your reply.

The melamine light fitting has definitely had it.

May I ask what do you mean by splice it in? Splice what in where?

I know it needs a new light fitting, and it's no problem to buy one, but I can't get the bottom of the existing cable out of the existing fitting - that's the first issue - and also there is a thread at the top of the existing fitting which screws into a little fitting on the exterior side at the top of the star.So I need to retain that part somehow....
