Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

RAW sewage from Park Road Crouch End, surfaces in Lordship Rec; council complacency

LONDON Centric reports today that a building in Crouch End is (unwittingly) sending untreated raw sewage into London's river system.

On this occasion, Thames Water is not to blame. Responsibility may lie with "dodgy builders and DIY plumbers".

The filth "surfaces in a local Tottenham Park, filled with sewage and wet wipes". The Moselle Brook flows from west to east through the Lordship Recreation Ground, which is the park affected.

Haringey Council is reported to have declined to identify the building in Park Road. This suggests that council officers have undertaken investigation in order to narrow down the source to a single road in the Borough.

It’s an even greater problem than the numbers suggest.  These are just detected misconnections.  A glimpse at Google Earth shows just how many beds in sheds there are in London.  Many will have been constructed without permission and as they are hidden behind terraces go undetected.  Below is a small section of a single street in west London as an example.

How can this be reported ? I doubt Haringey will pay any attention unless there's money involved .

The divided terraced house next to me, kitchen waste is plumbed into the rain water drain.  It floods from time to time in my front garden. I am hoping it's the the sh*t pipe was well.

The Freeholder bedsits were used by Haringey to house crack users.

The upstairs was bedrooms with shared bathroom and kitchen then converted to bedsits. There is no sound insulation between the ground floor leasehold flat and the bedsits. The builders put holes in the ceiling downstairs that have still not been repaired.

That's a good point. Where are the Greens in Harringay ? I thought they were polling well ?

Given the traffic farce, cycling disaster lane situation (or lack of it) they should be out and about campaigning ?

Whether any of them will make effective councillors is another matter...

If the picture of Haringey Greens in your link is anything to go by I doubt they are interested in environmental issues. Two of them are wearing the kefiyeh or hipster swastika. That suggests their 'green' is more to do with Islamist affiliations than environmental ones.

No Christmas tree in the picture either - shocking.

All part of the same problem.

Oh, I see

Oh dear. I don't get it. Not a promising image.

A planning enforcement issue (unlawful construction and conversion) can be reported here

Thames Water is harder.  All I could find was a general report a problem here.

Planning enforcement isn’t quick unless it’s a danger I’m afraid.

Thanks. I am not sure the conversion is unlawful. It was done on the cheap, corners cut, dodgy plumbing and no sound insulation. Landlords have done well subletting to Haringey for 1500/ month per bedsit x 4.  That's 6k a month for 1st floor and tiny 1 bed flat in attic.

I don't hold a high opinion of Haringey's building control given my engagement with them and that of my neighbour's.

Paying for private Building Control is the only way to save your sanity.

Large areas of the borough are under an Article 4 direction that means conversion from single dwelling house to flats requires a planning permission.  An HMO also needs one.  You can check if they applied here.
