Rare visitor to Ally Pally Park last weekend

Was tweeted by Friends of Ally Pally directing me to Stephen Middleton's photo of this gorgeous and rarely seen little bird at Ally Pally Lake last week.

Local birders were alerted to the presence of a smew by young birder, all-round-naturalist and photographer, Henry Wyn-Jones  according to the blog of @birdingetc who has taken some wonderful close ups and a video of this welcome visitor, the first recorded sighting for 27 years. 

Sadly, the Friends say that its not been sighted since Saturday so looks like she was only passing through.
